Country System

Sound Scope System Sound: played anywhere in the system. If the system only has one line, select Line Sound instead.

Line Sound: played anywhere on specific line(s)

Station Sound: played in/mentions a specific station

No: historical/retired sound.

If unsure and the sound doesn't exist on the website yet, choose Yes.

Sound Category The name of the sound category, like Door Chime, Arrival, Next Station, or Acceleration. Make sure to use proper Title Casing for the title.

Include a transcription only if the sound's transcription is the same across all sound variants.

Title Title of the variant sound within the sound category. Examples include directions "To (Terminus Station)", rolling stock variants "(Rolling Stock Name)". Make sure to use proper Title Casing for the title.

If there is only one sound for the category and no variants are possible, leave this field blank.

Description Transcription of the sound itself. Do not include if the sound category's transcription applies to every variant.

If there is no speech, leave blank or include the name of the sound (if applicable.)

Rolling Stock The train model which produces said sound. Do not include for sounds NOT made by the train (e.g. in-station announcements). Leave blank if unknown.

Year Captured The year this sound was recorded, not the first year of service. This could be either the date of an uploaded video (e.g. on YouTube) or the actual date of the recording. Leave blank if unknown.

Source A link to the original source of the sound. For sounds recorded by you, you may either write "User Recorded" (anonymous option) or if you would like credit, provide a link to a profile of yours.

Audio Guidelines

Audio must be clear and free of unrelated background noise/speech. Extremely noisy recordings may be rejected.
If the sound contains speech, the description must contain the full transcription in its original language.
- For sound effects, unless there is a name for it (e.g. Montréal's "Dou dou dou", Japan's departure melody song names), leave the description blank.
- If a name does exist, please wrap it in the native language's quotation marks.
Trim guidelines:
- Trim must start at the exact beginning of said sound. There must not be any background noise before the sound plays.
- Trim must end at any reasonable time after the end of said sound, usually around 1-2 seconds. Crossfade is optional but recommended.
Try to name the file something that relates to the sound it represents.

Notes

Submissions are reviewed before they are added to the atlas.
If you would like to see a country or system added, please open a GitHub issue.
Sounds uploaded must be currently used/most recently known used sound on the system.
Before submitting, please check whether the sound already exists in the atlas to avoid duplicates.
